Purpose and scope of a Work-Out or Kaizen event

- When you're in a meeting have you ever wondered what's the purpose of this meeting? And as the meeting drags on, meanders into irrelevant topics you may start wondering about the scope of the meeting. Or was the scope ever defined? Kaizen events are no different. In fact, it's even more critical that event's purpose and scope are clearly specified, communicated, and understood. All too often, the words purpose, goal, objectives are overused, misunderstood and misused. The purpose is not the agenda. It's not what you do at the event. There is a huge temptation to do this. Here's an example of a poorly stated objective. The purpose of this Kaizen event is to gather input from all stakeholders, brainstorm ways to streamline process ABC, and recommend improvement solutions to management. Why is this a bad example?
