- The instructional speech, sometimes called the how to speech may be one of the easiest and most frequently given or assigned speech topics. Simply, you instruct your audience on how to do something. The fact that you've been asked to give this how to speech probably means that you are the expert, and the audience is receptive. Most people would not attend a speech on how to spin wool or how to make a floral arrangement if they weren't interested in the topic. Although the basic speech arrangement may differ based on the topic of instruction, general guidelines can be adapted to most instructional speeches. How to speeches generally include a detailed demonstration of the process. Either a physical demonstration, a visual representation, or a combination of both hands-on and pictures. Also, even though your audience has some interest in your topic, you will still need to include audience benefits. Why should the audience learn how to do this?
