- As you're working towards your new career, keep in mind that you'll need to build a professional network. This will be an ongoing career management strategy and best learned early. Professional contacts are helpful in many ways. From learning about industries and roles to helping you land a job or promotion. Building your professional network doesn't have to be difficult or time-consuming. There are many opportunities through coursework, activities, professional associations, and social networking sites like LinkedIn.
