- There are many perks associated with working at home or remotely. You can usually dress more casual, you can create your own schedule, and here's a huge one, you get to avoid a lot of office politics. You know what I'm talking about. People stopping by your office, or your workspace to gab and gossip about the boss or others on the team. Sometimes they wish to complain, other times they're venting anger, and sometimes they're trying to persuade you to support them on some upcoming decision the team is facing. I won't say office politics is evil, but sometimes it's negative or annoying, and almost always it's distracting. Having said that, very often remote workers make the mistake of thinking they are no longer a part of office politics. That's wrong. You have to be. For every remote worker trying to stay out of things, there are multiple political animals, kiss-ups, and opportunists, working hard at the office to advance their agendas.
