- Colin Powell once said, "A dream doesn't become "reality through magic. "It takes sweat, determination, and hard work." I know you aren't necessarily dreaming about job design, but since you're watching this course, you're probably interested in doing it well. And I won't sugarcoat it, job design comes with challenges. I'd say the biggest challenge you face is losing control of job design. Often, jobs evolve without your input or knowledge as the HR manager. One client I'm working with has a supervisor who doesn't have any supervisory duties. Over time, she redefined her position, making it into what she wanted it to be. (clears throat) That is, she's not supervising anyone. She's designed her own job, and not in a good way. If the HR professional at this company was keeping in contact, conducting job analysis over time, and collaborating with the supervisor in ongoing job design, this never would've happened.
