Jeff Layton: So what if I'm very happy in my current career, but I'd like to just move up to the next level. Do you have any advice? Valerie Sutton: Yes. So the first thing you have to do is the gap analysis that we've talked about before, really looking at the next position and saying, what am I missing? And then you want to build that into your current career so that you're ready to take the next step. The second thing is that you have to create visibility within your organization, so you want to talk to the next person up, you want to talk to their boss, and really think about the story you have of why they should move you up. And then the third thing that I would say is that you have to subtly put in there where your successes and wins are in the organization, so that they know, subconsciously, that you're ready for that next step.
