Model of the performance management process
- Like most other projects you implement, performance management is a process. So let's take a look at the collaborative process of a performance management system. The model highlights the steps that will be the focus of the system you create and the steps managers will be taking with employees. The first step is setting expectations. You can't hold people accountable for stuff they don't know about. If they know what you expect out of their performance, then they can make the best decisions. The more specific you are with your expectations the better. And don't forget, the employee should get to set expectations too. This isn't about the employee obeying marching orders. It's about finding common ground and agreement. Next, it's the organization's job to provide training and resources so that employees can actually live up to those expectations.
