- Just like any other industry, there is a lot you need to avoid. There are things not to do when selling into telecommunications. Things that if you don't pay attention will completely undermine your ability to build relationships and land the deal. Here are four things to avoid when selling into telecommunications. Number one, never be negative. This may sound simple enough, but telecommunications is a tough business. It's easy for customers to be cynical, frustrated, and want to vent. As a sales professional, you need to listen and show empathy, but never, I mean never, go down the negative path. Customers want to do business with sales professionals that have ideas, solutions, and a positive outlook. Number two, don't confuse the players. This is so easy to do, honestly.
