Missing the real critical path
- Now we're gonna have a look at time problems that you might have with your project, and how can you avoid these. The first thing I want to talk about is the idea of the critical path, and the fact that if you get some of your dependencies wrong or you miss a dependency between one task and another, you may end up then forecasting the wrong overall time that your project's gonna take, and this is gonna go badly with your customers. So if you have a look at this diagram, this explains the process. This thing here is known as a network diagram. I usually call it a Post-It Note diagram for obvious reasons. This is what I've prepared earlier for a little project setting up an office in a foreign country. So I wrote each task on a Post-It Note and I put them in the right order, and then I've put the times on them that I'm estimating for each of these tasks.
