- I'm positive you have an employee orientation program. It involves getting paperwork signed, introducing new hires around the office, and some initial training. But are you onboarding employees? Onboarding programs are focused on helping new hires adjust to the social and cultural aspects of your company, which in turn helps new hires become more productive more quickly. Measuring onboarding is indeed important. The less effective your onboarding, the more likely someone is to leave. Effective onboarding programs achieve four things. Role clarity: employees understand their role and expectations. Self-efficacy: employees feel confident in their ability to perform. Social integration: employees feel connected to their new peers. Knowledge of culture: employees understand policies and history of the company but also the values and unsaid social rules. Our onboarding measurements need to be focused in these areas.
