Making a career change and examining hiring trends
Jeff Layton: Do you have any words of encouragement for someone out there who just wants to make a career change? Valerie Sutton: Be patient. That's the number one thing. When you're making that transition, it can take time, depending on how dramatic it is, and so you really want to think through what that process is and you also want to set up sort of a project management plan for yourself. You want to think about the gap analysis. What do I need to do to get to that transition? And as long as you're working on that, you can feel good about the time it takes to make the transition. Jeff: Can you talk about some resources to find out what specific hiring trends there are in different industries? Valerie: Actually, there's a lot of government resources, so The Bureau of Labor Statistics, as well as O*NET, can give you great information on trending industries and who has a bright outlook and some of the things that may be on the way out Both of those are great.
