Jeff Layton: How useful are personality tests or assessments? It seems like there's a lot of them out there when you're looking for a job. Valerie Sutton: Personality assessments or any type of sort of strength-based assessments gives you a framework to have a conversation. And so I think that oftentimes people think of them as putting themselves in a box, and that's not what it's about. It about understanding yourself better and understanding why you fit in an organization or why you may not fit within an organization. So really, I think they're very helpful if you don't have a really good understanding of why something is not working out. But if you have a really good knowledge of yourself and what you like to do and what you don't like to do, it may be less helpful. Jeff: Personality tests don't necessarily translate to, this is your career now; this is your job choice. Valerie:, No they don't transfer directly.
