There's a bunch of analysts in a room, then they report back with their numbers. These numbers are seen as the truth. As the saying goes, numbers don't lie, but sometimes numbers do lie. Or at least in a way they're made to lie by sloppy analysis. You've already seen examples of statistics telling the wrong story. Two different politicians can tell different stories based on the same numbers. Studies can reach false conclusions, people can misinterpret the data, or choose their own story.
