- Have you ever been scrolling through jobs and found one that you loved but you didn't have the skills and experience to be seriously considered? Should you still apply? My answer is if you have 70% of what they are seeking, yes, you should definitely apply. But what if you don't? Although many early career positions are primarily interested in your skills and may not require specific knowledge or qualifications to start, you do need to be aware in case it is required. If an employer in the US states that something is required in the job description, they can't hire someone that doesn't have it. For instance, if a job description requires knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint, you must have that knowledge. Or, if they require a master's degree, you must have a master's degree to get hired. Knowledge is specific and is gained by learning from experience or study.
