- As a consultant who focuses on helping companies create positive cultures, I can tell you one thing I see over and over again. Mangers lack the skills they need to help create a better culture. In the case of total rewards, that means managers aren't equipped to educate their employees about rewards, or to deliver on them. For instance, I'm currently working with a company who's work force is experiencing major burnout. Our survey showed people can't keep up with the demands of their job and that they believe the company is too focused on productivity and not enough focused on the well being of their employees. Let's say that we decide to offer a yoga class on Fridays that employees can take while clocked in. It's one simple way to show employees they were heard and that their health is important to the employer. Of course we'll be implementing several other actions, this is just one. But what happens if managers don't communicate about the class, or don't make it easy on employees…
