- You never get a second chance to make a first impression, and that's absolutely true when recruiting. Whether you're pitching to a new client or contacting possible candidates, you want to sound like you know what you're doing. You need to ask questions that will help you sound like an expert in your niche, and that means you're going to have to do your homework. Start by researching job descriptions to get a general knowledge of the duties and responsibilities of each specific job title. Review profiles on LinkedIn and job board postings to understand functions performed for various job titles. That information will help you craft questions in advance. Next, recruit and interview 10 candidates for each of the job titles you've selected in your niche. Ask these candidates to describe a typical day.
