- We all know the famed question from the McDonald's franchise, do you want fries with that? This became the famous question related to up-sells as a method of increasing order size. One simple question, would you like fries with that? Most of us in retail are not selling a hamburger with the simple addition of a bag of fries. As an owner of a retail business, you need to constantly think about different ways to increase average order size or to improve the revenue derived from every customer. As an employee of a retail business, always be mindful of opportunities to increase order size. Perhaps bring your ideas to management and you may see your ideas help sales flourish. The first thing you need to do is figure out your average order size. For example, I have a client who sells guitars. Let's assume he makes about 10 sales a day with an average order of $500. The question I would be asking is what can we do to increase that average order to $600 a day or to $700 a day? Obviously…
