Humor as a connection

- The last two movies have been about indviduals versus an opponent, about being alone, about being served by humor as an attacker or as a victim. Another important function of humor is as a bridge connecting people to each other and to the world outside. Think of the position you take when you're laughing with someone else. You're nodding your head up and down, you're smiling. By laughing together you're saying, "Yes, I see this situation as you see this situation. "We're in this together." This feeling of sharing a perspective is a very positive emotion. When we make certain observations about the world's incongruities and those observations resonate with other people, we have a common vision of that particular situation and a shared emotion. For example I was talking to a friend who was looking forward to the fact that his kids were going to their grandparents for the weekend.
