- Preparing payroll for an organization and all of its employees can be a daunting task. Understanding the laws can sometimes be overwhelming. However it is the HR professional's job, to ensure that people are paid on time and correctly. Hi, I'm Gabriella Parente and I've spent the last 15 years dedicated to the science and practice of human resources. One of those areas I've become quite familiar with and have consulted with hundreds of companies on, is their payroll function. In this course, I'm going to take you through 13 of the most common topics, to successfully manage the payroll function in your organization.
We'll start with discussing payroll fundamentals such as how to classify workers and understanding the difference between exempt and nonexempt employees. Then we'll move on to setting up a payroll function such as record retention requirements and picking a payroll system. We'll then end with payroll compliance, where we'll discuss how to handle sick and vacation pay, employee benefits and final pay due to termination and much more. In the end a well oiled payroll function shows workers and investors that their organization can be relied upon and trusted, to comply with complex, tax and labor laws.
This is the hallmark of a successful payroll function. Let's get started.
