How to do a talk without notes
- So this next section is on how to remember your talk. Wouldn't it be great to do a talk without any notes? And you can. I'm going to show you how. So in increasing order of goodness, starting with the worst one, never read from a script. It's just horrible. Reading out a talk from a script. It means there's no eye contact with the audience. It's just going to sound stilted and it's awful. So never write a script out and read it. I mean, it's a whole lot of work, to have to write the script out as well. So the good news is you don't have to write a great big script. And similarly, never learn a script off by heart. I mean, I suppose that's slightly better than reading it out but learning it off by heart is a huge job to have to do. And what happens if your mind goes blank at the beginning of your talk or halfway through it, you're really stuffed. And if you've got the script you'll be rummaging for where you are, where's your place in the script. So, never read from a script, never…
