- [Instructor] You may hear in retail customer service to keep a positive attitude. It is super important. When you have a positive attitude your customers and co-workers enjoy you more. So the question becomes, how do you keep a positive attitude when things are not going your way? If you are out too late the night before and you're tired. When you have upset customers. Your co-worker didn't show up for their shift and you're busy. What do you do? Here are three easy strategies that you can implement today to create and keep a positive attitude.
One, start your morning or afternoon with five to 10 minutes for yourself. Find a quiet place at your house, in a park or even in your car. Take a moment in gratitude. Because when you're being thankful for the things or people you have in your life it puts you in a positive state of mind. Two, before your shift move your body in some way. Some sort of exercise or movement will get your endorphins going and make you feel good. Three, listen to uplifting music or something positive before your shift.
Studies show that music goes straight to your nervous system, so when you listen to uplifting music it helps you feel happy. But be careful it works with sad music as well so keep it upbeat. Trainings like this one are great to get into your head before a shift as well. If you're at work and you get a difficult customer or have an argument with a co-worker, or your boss is coming down on you take five minutes to do what I call a mid-shift reboot. Breath deeply, grab a glass of water if you can because that will help change your state of mind.
Go somewhere quiet, listen to an uplifting song, walk around the block or the store, smile and brush it off. If your mind says, I have nothing to be thankful for, everything sucks, then simply think about what you could be thankful for if you really wanted to. It will work, I promise. These strategies also work in your personal life. Make it a habit to create and keep a positive attitude every day. It will change your life for the better, guaranteed.
