How to create an interview template
- While you want your interviews to be conversational, you also want some pre-planned questions that align with the goals you have for that conversation. By creating a question template, you make sure that you start each interview intentionally to set yourself up for success. This keeps you organized and makes it easier to summarize your findings later. You can refer to the exercise file for an interview template I prepared for you to use as a jumping off point. At the top of the page, begin by listing your learning objectives for that interview. What are you trying to learn by talking to this person? For an initial problem discovery interview, you'll be interested in learning about that person's life or work day. What problems do they face? How painful are those problems? Are they actively looking for solutions to those problems? Before asking any questions, you should start with a basic introduction to share expectations and lay some ground rules.
