How to ask for a raise

- Hands up if you don't want to be paid more money. Right, I'm guessing your hand isn't up. You work hard for your money, most people do, and at the very least, it's great to see your income expand, especially as your cost of living goes up. And the best way to do that is to get a raise. To be paid more for the work you already do is the ideal way to maximize your income. If you work for an organization with clear salary bounds and levels of work, then make sure you know what the goals and metrics are to make it to the next level. For people on a salary, there's a few things you should know. It's in your company's best interest to not pay you more, so you may need to prove that paying you more is in their best interest. Raises are scheduled. Usually guidelines within your company determine when salary reviews are done, annually, for example. Raises are budgeted in advance.
