How to analyze survey results

- On the surface, analyzing survey results may seem easy. Survey tools often give you reports that share the average response for each question, and it's tempting to stop there. But there are nuances to survey results that, when looked at deeply, provide even more valuable information for your team. Let's take a look at some data. You can also download this if you want to follow along. The first thing to look at is how many responses your survey received. Here we see N, or our number of responses, is 45. We won't get into statistical significance now, but the closer the number of responses is to the total size of the target market, the more reliable your results will be. For now, let's assume this is a very representative sample of my target market. Our results show how many respondents gave each possible rating, which gives us a total percentage for each rating on each question. We also have an average for each question.
