Help generations work together
- Each generation has its own set of norms and conventions around working, collaborating, and communicating. Usually it's not too difficult to read the room and make allowances or adjustments to work around these differences but in some cases, you may need to help out. Let's look at three aspects of workplace interaction where you could help prevent or repair miscommunications or disconnections between older and younger team members. We'll start with verbal behavior and interactions. Different generations use different slang expressions and have different cultural references including music, sports, movies, and historical events. Encourage your older rapport and your younger team members to share and explain these references to one another as a way of finding common ground. Next, integration with technology.
