- You've just been told that you've been selected to introduce your organization's keynote speaker next month. Or to introduce the company's new CEO at the yearly stakeholder's meeting. Or, maybe a little less intimidatined, to introduce the new employee at your next department meeting. A few of you might immediately think "Wow, what an honor! I can't wait!" But based on statistics, having to give a speech is often listed as the number one fear. I'm going to guess that the first thought for most of you is "Oh, no! Why me? "How can I get out of this? "What am I going to say? "I think I'm going to be ill." Or at least something similar to that. Maybe your first reaction will never be "I can't wait," but we can make giving an introductory speech less intimidating. First, keep in mind that all the planning and writing that we've discussed in the other lessons applies to all speeches, including getting to introduce someone.
