- You are here. Understanding the world around you will help you navigate through the innovation process. To get the lay of the land and begin to make sense of your innovation ecosystem, you have to understand your company's organizational chart. It will allow you to identify influence and create your internal innovation network. If you work at a medium to large-sized company, the org chart should be easy to find. But if you work at a smaller business or start-up, you may find that there is no formal org chart in place. In either case, you may have to informally sketch one out on your own. To outline from scratch, start from the top, identify your CEO, and create the connecting lines from there. Include names, titles, job descriptions and responsibilities. Now at a large company, the org chart can be incredibly complicated. Many departments, many layers of people.
