- One of the hardest things to change are people's belief systems. Our belief systems are formed by our experiences and become ingrained over time. Most people like to think they're right most of the time, and therefore, they think their beliefs are truisms, or universal truths. We even seek out information that confirms our beliefs, which is known as confirmation bias. So if you want to change someone's beliefs, you need to give them concrete evidence to the contrary so they can understand that, perhaps, their beliefs are not truisms. Let me give you an example. Let's say your company's been a market leader known for the quality of its products for the last 30 years. Your flagship product sells at a premium because there's limited competition in the marketplace. As a result, your company has become complacent over time.
