- Let's say you've been asked to deliver a talk on your favorite topic. You feel excited, but you get up on stage. Uh-oh, you'd been warned. Many in the audience don't seem to think too much of your topic. Some are glaring at you. Others seem distracted. They're looking at their phones. And some seem bored. There's even a couple that look like they might fall asleep. However, a few seem a little curious about what you have to say. They're looking at you, and you see a few tentative little smiles. A crowd with mixed emotions can be tough, but you're front and center so you've got to provide them with emotional leadership. This means you'll need to guide your audience to a more positive or productive emotional space.
