- [Instructor] Let's talk for a minute about your first day on the job. Now you could show up, and you could be all bold and confident and act like you own the place, but occasionally that approach backfires. A better approach is to show up and be ready to learn how your employer expects things to be done. One of the best things you can do is come prepared with a few questions. If I was a store manager and you came in on your first day asking intelligent questions about store policies, I would be seriously impressed, like, how do I handle a customer requesting a refund? Remember, questions aren't a sign of weakness. They're a sign of strength. And asking is always better than taking some wild guess. Here's another tip. As you go through your orientation, ask your boss if she minds if you use your phone to take notes. Again, this is just another positive sign that you're eager to learn and detail-oriented.
