One final step to remember is to celebrate you. At this point, you've done interesting work, made progress, built your self-confidence. But I want you to start moving away from thinking about incremental improvement and incremental rewards. You've made the step now into big milestones, and you deserve to put rewards that are commensurate with the achievement. So, for example, if your big five year dream involves two promotions at work, well, when you get one of those big promotions you need to treat yourself appropriately.
Now you haven't earned a lunch out at a nice restaurant, you've earned that dream vacation. Or maybe it's that new car that you've been thinking about for the last several years. Whatever it is, make sure that the reward you give yourself, the celebration you give yourself, matches the size of the achievement. The major milestone that you just achieved. You see, here's what happens when you celebrate yourself instead of someone else awarding you. You're saying to yourself, I did this, I earned this, I'm good enough, and I am worth this indulgence, whatever the reward might be.
That's the final step in the process of building self-confidence. To truly set goals, fearlessly chase them, achieve them, and say to yourself I did that I'm worth whatever the reward is. That's when you have clear, strong self-confidence.
