- When I first became a sales person, the way we tracked account information, follow-up requirements, and sales forecasting was actually really primitive. It may sound like I'm dating myself, which of course I am, but we kept hand-written notes in folders, on note cards, and in our own special tracking systems. Later on we moved this information to electronic files, spreadsheets, and other new forms of account contact software. Much of this information was later referred to being in rogue databases, as it seemed like each sales person had their own system for keeping records and submitting their sales projections. Even if there was some consistency to it, it then felt like this information was just housed only in the sales department. For a sales person, our account information, contact details, notes from meetings with clients, sales projections and tracking is the backbone of our business.
