Budgeting blind spots

- I am a firm believer in directing our money toward the things that are most important to us. But sometimes the degree to which it feels important is greater than the actual dollars we have for it. This can be a very difficult situation, because it seems like we have to sacrifice our financial stability in order to have or do this thing. Sometimes the choice isn't even that conscious. For example, if you strongly believe that the best thing for your body and the planet is to eat organic food, you don't consider this a choice based on your values. It feels like a fact, a necessity. If you don't have the money for it, then you'll go into debt, because money is less important than the value of healthy food. It's distressing certainly, but it simply must be done. If it's not organic food, it could be the highest quality of care for your children, or a house in a good school district, or a top-rated specialist who's outside of your insurance plan.
