- Have you ever hired an HR vendor to help out your company or have you ever been an HR vendor yourself? Well, I've been both and seen both sides, and would love to share with you some best-case scenarios when working with vendors. First and foremost, I always recommend, whenever possible, to meet a vendor in person. Nothing can replace personal contact between individuals. Since you'll be working together a lot, it's a good idea to get to know them further and be able to ask casual but insightful questions. Meetings that are held in person foster relationships and demonstrate a level of organizational commitment and investment. Secondly, it's important to ensure you have a clearly written contract and a service-level agreement. A contract will allow you to detail what activities should take place at each stage of the vendor lifecycle. Also, it can help with escalation procedures in case issues arise.
