Attending networking events

- Networking events can be great for client and partnership development. Go into these events with a strategy. One approach is to meet as many people as possible and have short conversations, then ask if you can follow up with them after the event. Another approach is to be targeted and find a small set of people to build a relationship with. This approach does require access to the attendee list before the event so you can do your research. Make sure your intent matches their intent. If they're looking to speed date and you want to have a long conversation, that conversation won't go well. I have one client that I'm a coach for. He was being unsuccessful at the networking events he was going to. When we discussed it, it turns out he was taking that speed conversation approach. But the people at these events wanted to have deeper conversations. He changed his approach and what he found was he was having more meaningful connections at those events, even though it was a smaller number…
