Asking yourself, "Should I?"

- Small, daily behaviors can help you and your team achieve focus. Many people look at a task and say I can do that, and then they proceed to work on it. A better question to ask is should I do that. When you ask this question, it points out that the task is a choice. This mindset helps you be more deliberate about deciding what work to do and work to either delegate or deprioritize. Ask this same question with your team. Should your team be doing a particular task? Should another work group handle it? It's just as valuable to justify why you shouldn't do something as it is to justify work you should do. I work with one attorney at a large corporation. He runs a legal team. Lately, the sourcing group has been sending a lot of work to his team. They've been asking his team to do contract review. Up until recently, his team has been doing all that work.
