- Do you want to be more productive in your job? Do you want things to be a little easier throughout your workday? Would becoming more efficient interest you? If you answered yes to any or all of these questions, the way to do this is to stay current within the administrative support professionals community. You must know how to utilize resources that keep you growing in your career and personal development. One of the first ways to do this is to become certified as an administrative support professional. There are a number of organizations that offer certification courses and exams. The one that I am the most familiar with is the Certified Administrative Professional Certification offered by the International Association of Administrative Professionals. This certification establishes your top-notch credentials and helps you to be recognized as someone who has a drive for continuous learning in their professional field. Other resources include annual conferences and networking events. There are a number of organizations that offer these conferences that are geared specifically for administrative support professionals. The speakers, course offerings, and networking sessions are catered specifically to us and provide resources, motivation, and tools that we are able to use for years to come. Some of the top conferences include Executive Secretary Live, the Administrative Professionals Conference, the Office Dynamics Conference for Administrative Excellence, and Be the Ultimate Assistant Workshops. Attending any one of these conferences can give you hard and soft skills, as well as the renewed motivation you need. Next, it is important to network with administrative support professionals virtually. You can do this by joining any number of groups on LinkedIn. If you don't have a LinkedIn profile set up, you should. LinkedIn groups provide a tremendous opportunity to communicate with other administrative support professionals. In these groups, you can network, ask questions to professional challenges you may be experiencing, learn best practices, and get feedback. And you can do all of this from the comfort of your home and office through the use of your computer. I have made tremendous connections through this vehicle and been able to increase my influence and reach among my peers. Lastly, as an administrative support professional, you should be subscribing to and reading one or more newsletters or blogs that contain relevant and timely information concerning our profession. There are a number of good resources that exist to do exactly that. They include OfficePro Magazine that is published by the International Association of Administrative Professionals, Monday Motivators and Blog, that is prepared by Office Dynamics International, the Administrative Professional Today, Office Manager Today, and Office Technology Today, monthly newsletters that are published by Business Management Daily. These resources contain valuable information and practical advice for today's office professionals. I believe these administrative resources will add value to you as you make it a priority to continue to expand your knowledge base and stay current with the ever-changing business landscape in our office environment.
