- [Narrator] It should be clear at this point in this course that open data is remarkably valuable in communities. We're also saying that designing and deploying an open data portal is not that difficult. With both value and ease to deploy, it seems that open data is a no-brainer. This is largely true, but it carries some level of risk. I'd like to briefly discuss that risk and also point out some easy steps that can lower risks for a government agency. What are the risks of open data? There are two main categories of risk. The first category is taking steps that create errors such as releasing confidential data. This category could also include publishing data that is wrong, or incomplete, or mislabeled or described incorrectly. To a large degree, the publishing process in the prior video describes a mechanism to lower the likelihood of making mistakes.
