Planning

As we saw in earlier videos, there are three basic email designs: one-column, two-column, and multicolumn product emails. In this video, I will show you the planning process before you code. When I start to plan a design, to turn it into code, I begin with the JPEG image of the email, and then I use Photoshop to determine the different elements of the design. For example, what is the plum-colored background, its hexadecimal color? I also use the Marquee tool to determine the widths of different elements, including the email.

The email width needs to be under 600 pixels, so in this case it's fine. And then I determine the widths of all the different boxes. And what this does is this gives me an idea of where the design will need to go in terms of coding tables, how many tables, which tables are nested inside of other tables, and so forth. Now that we've planned out the code and the basic elements, colors, lengths, widths, et cetera, of this design, we will begin to actually code.
