Box policies and automations: The basics
- Policies and Automations are two different ways to manage content in Box. Both of them depend on rules so they're similar but they're not quite the same. A Policy is triggered by a specific event. For example, someone uploaded a file, downloaded a file, shared a file. When they do that, we'll have a rule that is applied to that particular file, and based on that rule, we might do something with it. Policies are used to enforce your security and content policies for your organization. If, for example, you have a policy that says "There's a particular type of file that we can't save" then a Policy in Box would support your company's content policy. Automation on the other hand is triggered by completion. A task is finished, a file is completely uploaded to a folder, and based on that event, something being done, we can run a workflow. Whereas Policies enforce security, Automation supports your organization's natural workflow. Let's start by creating a Security Policy.
