Join Eran Stern for an in-depth discussion in this video Extruded shape layers, part of After Effects: 3D Typography.
…I've saved my progress in this After Effects project file.…And now, after we've created a 3D extruded text, we are ready to the next step.…If we're going to take a look at our style frame over here.…We can see that the explode shape has two levels of extrusion.…We can see that we have an inner part, and an outer external part.…And in order for the Ray-Tracer, 3D engine to extrude it.…
I need to convert this Adobe Illustrator vector file, to shapes.…Luckily for us, After Effects can do it automatically.…So, make sure to select the layer in the timeline.…And then under the Layer menu, choose Create Shapes from Vector Layer.…This will create a new 3D shape, and it will place it above all the layers.…I'm just going to make sure that it is underneath…the boom layer, in order too keep everything in one stack.…
Now, notice that After Effects also turned off the I for the original layer.…But everything is preserved.…Meaning that if I'm going to press EE in sequence, we see…that the expression that was applied to the scale value is still there.…
