This video is an introduction to starting a meeting in BlueJeans. Learn about how to start an unscheduled meeting at any time. Also see what information you need to send to other people so they can join the meeting.
- [Instructor] In BlueJeans, there are a few ways to get into a meeting. Of course, you could join a meeting that somebody else has set up, but in this movie, I want to start by seeing how to create and host a meeting yourself. When you host a meeting, you will be identified as the meeting moderator and there are two main options to start your own meeting which we can see here on the main BlueJeans page. You can schedule a meeting by hitting this button right here and that's going to involve calendar integration and invitations, great stuff which we will talk about in a separate movie.
But you can also start a new meeting at any time without prior planning just by hitting this button labeled Start My Meeting or if you're starting from the desktop application, you have a button labeled Start Personal Meeting but it does the same thing. If you do hit the button on the webpage, it will bounce you over to the desktop application anyway. And if you do not have the desktop application installed, it will prompt you to do that installation and then it will start your meeting. All right, enough explanation. I'm going to start my meeting so I'll just hit this button here and now it's asking me how I want to handle audio.
If you have a microphone connected to your computer, you can just choose the computer audio option. If not, you can get audio for the meeting through a telephone. Just click on this phone audio button and it gives you a dial in number. And if you're in a different country, you can choose the country that you're in and it will give you a different dial in number. So you can just dial that number on any normal telephone to join the meeting. Audio only of course. But I do want to use my computer audio so I'll hit the back button. And alternatively, you could click this button to view screen share only if you do not want to send and receive audio for this meeting.
But most people do want to use computer audio so I'm going to do that so I'll click on that and now it will turn on my webcam. I want to make sure that the camera is set properly, that I have my lighting and that I'm in frame. Everything looks good here. Now before I join the meeting, you have options to disable either your camera or your microphone. You can disable either of these and you can also disable them once you're in the meeting. Some people like to join specific meetings without the camera active so you can do that right here.
But I'm going to leave both of these active and I'll hit Join Meeting and after a moment the meeting will start and now I'm in my meeting. But of course, I'm in the meeting alone. I'm the only person in the meeting and that's not very efficient. You'll want other people to join the meeting. Now in other movies in this course, we will see how to join a meeting that you've been invited to, but the main thing that somebody needs if they're going to join your meeting is either this website address right here that appears at the bottom of the window or simply the number at the end of that link.
That's known as the meeting ID number and using that they can join into the meeting. So you could email this link or email the meeting ID number to somebody or send it in a text message or however you want to get it to somebody and then they can join the meeting. Now my coworker Garrick is standing by ready to join this meeting so I need to give him that meeting ID number so I'm going to send that to him in a text message. It'll take a few minutes for him to connect so I'm just going to jump forward in time now and there's Garrick.
Now he's connected. Hey Garrick. - Hello. - Thanks for helping out with this. - No problem. - And so that's it. Now we're connected in a meeting. And of course in a meeting, you can have lots of other participants. We'll see that as we go through the course. And then I have a bunch of controls over here on the right side that we can use during this meeting. And again, we'll get to those as we go through later in the course. But it is important to point out that I am the moderator. I'm the person who started the meeting so I have some controls that Garrick does not see. For example Garrick, you do not see a record button on your side, right? - Correct, I do not.
- Right, that's because Garrick is a participant and I'm the moderator. All right, so I think that's really all we need to see for now. So Garrick, thanks for helping out and we'll see you again in another movie. - All right, see you soon. - Great, so we can both hit the leave button up here in the top right corner, confirm that we want to leave, and that takes us out of the meeting. And I just like to go ahead and quit the BlueJeans application when I'm finished. So that's how you can initiate a meeting at any time without any prior planning or scheduling and it's a place to get started learning how to work with BlueJeans.
