Use the Mesh Edit Tools add-on

- [Male] Blender has some great add-ons for mesh editing and in this week's tips, tricks, and techniques we're going to go over one of my favorites Mesh Edit Tools Number Two. Now as a Blender 2.79 it's already included. To turn it on, go to File User Preferences Click on Add-ons, and type in Edit. And you'll see it right here. Mesh Edit Tools. So let's turn that on, save user settings, And close out of this. Now most of these tools are going to be located within your Edit Mode + W Menu. So let's make sure that we're in Vertices Mode, and let's pick a vertices here, and let's hit W, and check out what we have. The first one we have is Vertex Chamber, let's play with this. What this let's you do is cut your vertices, and turn it into a triangle, almost as if you just chopped it right off. You can do multiple vertices as once, or just one. It's really handy. Now, for this next tool, I want to undo this Chamber, so let's hit Control + Z get back to a cube. Hit W to subdivide a couple of times. Here we go. And now, go to Edit Tools, Random Vertices, and we're going to kick up the factor by a bunch, and play a little bit with the minimum and maximum. At first, you're probably like well there's nothing really going on. The more you start to play with these values, though, you start to see as they become more and more random. So here we go. And what random vertices lets you do is basically that. Just generate a bunch of random vertices positions. So maybe our factory is a little too high, so we can bring it down a little bit. This could be really useful for, like, maybe making random rocks, or a bundled up piece of paper. It's pretty crazy, right? Let's make a new cube here, so let's delete this one. Shift + A, Cube Let's go to edit mode, and let's switch over to Edge Mode. Alright, so now let's select an edge, and let's go to W + Edge Tools, and you'll see that there's actually quite a few in here. And one of the ones that I like, primarily, is fast loop. What this lets you do, is to quickly add edge loops. We can middle mouse, and it'll add a bunch. Or just have one. But everywhere you click adds a new loop. It's really, really handy, and really fast. Okay, let's hit Enter, and leave this last loop, and then you can hit Escape to cancel it. Now to end fast loops, just hit escape, and then let's move in to Face Mode, and see what we have for faces. So hit W, Go to edit tools, And you'll see a bunch of tools in here, just like in edges. One of my favorites is Multi Extrude. So let's select a bunch of faces, So let's just hit B, draw a box. Doesn't matter which ones you select, just select a bunch. Hit W + Edit Tools + Multi Extrude Wow! Look at this craziness that we get. Now let's open up our little T-Panel here, and you can play with so many of these little controls. You can offset everything, you can rotate them, and you'll start to see what's happening here is that each one, actually, you can rotate individually. You can rotate as a group, it's really, really amazing. Change the scales. And you can get some super, super wicked shapes. Look at that! Pretty cool. And, even add a little bit of noise to it to make it feel really random. A good use for this would be making grass. Okay, so let's hit X, let's delete that little guy. Shift C to center a scene. Shift A, I'm going to show you one more tool. Let's go into Edit Mode W + Edit Tools PKHG Faces What does that do? Let's click on it. Now, here you'll have to pick an option, so I'm going to pick Spiked. And what it let's you do is basically this. It let's you create out of each face that you've selected, a certain kind of shape. So I'm going to say Spike and play a little bit with that. So you can instantly make a futuristic kind of ship, or maybe a weapon of some sort, or you can even play with Stepped and make these very interesting, intricate patterns. This is the power of Mesh Edit Tools Two. There are so many options in here that we've just barely scratched the surface. I highly recommend you get in there and play with more of the options and see what cool things you can come up with. Until next time, this is David from Blender's Tips, Tricks, and Techniques.
