Join David Andrade for an in-depth discussion in this video UV like a pro, part of Blender: Tips, Tricks and Techniques.
- [Narrator] UV mapping, or the process…of making a 3D object into a usable flat 2D image…to paint on is nothing but exhausting.…Thankfully, Blender has some tricks…that help us work quickly.…Let's take a look.…The first thing I want to do is delete our cube.…Sorry little buddy.…Let's go into cycles.…Shift + C to center our scene.…Let's make a monkey.…Switch our layout to UV editing.…Let's turn our monkey to face forward.…
Turn off T; N; let's make a new image.…I'll just call this monkey.…Hit enter, and then click OK.…You can hit home screen and zoom out a little bit.…Hit A, U, Unwrap and let's see what we get.…Good Lord!…That looks terrible.…Okay, so now, this is not a good UV map.…It stretched out this whole thing crazy as possible…and it's pretty difficult to work with.…
Now, there's a few approaches here…to make these UVs look a lot better,…so that when you are painting on them,…you can actually know what you're painting on.…I challenge you to find the mouth on this shape.…The first one is really fast…and only really good if you are in a pinch.…
