- [Instructor] Did you know that Blender has a lot of free add-ons already installed but not enabled? Well, in this week's Blender's Tips Tricks and Techniques, we're going to go through some of my favorites Now to enable it, you're going to want to go up to File, User Preferences, and click on your add-ons tab. I'm going to type in F2, it's one of my favorite add-ons for filling faces. So let's make sure it's checkmarked on. Now F2 works by simplifying the way that you fill faces. Before, you had to select all four corners of a quad polygon and then hit F to create a face.
But with F2 turned on, I can switch to Edge Mode, and hit F twice and instantly fill up the face. That's pretty cool. Now two other add-ons I like to use are the Copy Attributes Menu which is right here and the Materials Utils Special add-on which you can get right here. So let's make sure both of those are checkmarked and let's see what we can do with them. In this scene, I've got a green monkey and a red monkey with Subsurf on. First, with the green one selected, I could hit Shift + Q and I get this new Materials Specials Menu pop-up.
I can quickly select other monkeys by hitting, say Select by Material red or back to green and I can quick change the material by going to Assign Material and going to red. But now, what if I wanted to copy the modifier of this monkey? Let's pretend that there were hundreds of modifiers and I needed a quick way to grab them. First, select the monkey that I want to have everything copied to, then Shift select the monkey that has all the things that I want, then hit Control + C.
Now before you use a Copy Attributes menu add-on, you would just copy the selection to the buffer and that would be it. But with the add-on enabled, you've got all of these cool little copy modifiers, Copy Time Offset, et cetera, options. Now I just need modifiers so let's go down to the bottom. And here's my Subsurf modifier, I'm going to click on it and then go to OK and look at that. My monkey now has Subsurf on it, pretty cool. There are a ton of add-ons in here that are included and to go over them would take hours.
But I really encourage you to go through each one and play with it and see how it can improve your workflow. There's even a whole section of testing add-ons. These are add-ons that are say, works in progress, beta, or it's just kind of cool like the rock generator. So why don't we turn that one on really quick. Let's go to our scene and I'm going to hit Shift + A, Mesh, Rock. And hey, look at that! I've generated a rock and if open up my tools panel a little bit, I can do all sorts of crazy things to it.
Blender has such an amazing array of add-ons already included, waiting for you to discover it. Have fun and play around and see what you can learn.
