- [Narrator] Alembic is an open-source interchange format that preserves the high-end animation you make out of Blender and its geometry caches. That's basically animated vertexes. It doesn't use rigs at all, it just bakes it all down to vertex animation. You may ask yourself, "Why would I do this?" Well, believe it or not, it's actually a lot faster than having a rig on, and it allows you to go between other programs like Houdini. So, let's go ahead and create ourselves some interesting vertex animation. It would help to have a monkey, so delete the cube, shift + a to make a monkey, and let's go ahead and zoom in and rig our monkey really quick, shift + a, Armature, tab to go into edit mode, e, e, there we go, we have ourselves some pretty good bones, and hit g to just manipulate them and put them in the right spot.
