I think that's a myth. The dev team should definitely care about your big data platform. That gets to the root of what I believe and that is that data is for everyone. And I don't just mean the analysts that know how to bend data to their will. I'm talking, every business person, marketing designer, executive, everyone in your company should have access to good clean data to help them improve their decision making. Your dev team with their obvious abilities to work with data are too often left alone on the data generation side of the equation and rarely at least in my experience, really embrace data science for their work.
