Learn how big data impacts development teams as well as business users.
- [Voiceover] Sometimes, when working with clients big data systems can be something where the dev team doesn't seem to be involved or people don't think the dev team should be involved. I think that's a myth. The dev team should definitely care about your big data platform. That gets to the root of what I believe and that is that data is for everyone. And I don't just mean the analysts that know how to bend data to their will. I'm talking, every business person, marketing designer, executive, everyone in your company should have access to good clean data to help them improve their decision making.
Your dev team with their obvious abilities to work with data are too often left alone on the data generation side of the equation and rarely at least in my experience, really embrace data science for their work. Maybe their smarter than the rest of us? Who knows? Here's an ideal world view of how your big data system could help everyone. Real-Time events stream in and data at rest gets batched in on a regular interval. Inside of the data hub, which is what we're going to call our big data system, you have access methods for analysts, apps and data science applications.
Now by streaming real time data into the hub and batching in additional data, your apps have a singular place to look for nearly any information they could need. Granted, certain systems have a more stringent requirement but at the very least, being a key participant in this ecosystem would benefit them as well as the rest of the company. Developers can use analytics, they can use data science methods to measure the success of their apps. Product teams can look at user behaviors. All of this is predicated on everybody being onboard with the data hub, with your big data platform.
It's something, that when done properly, really benefits everybody in the company. Which would include the dev team. So I reject the notion that the dev team shouldn't care and shouldn't really worry about the big data platform. It can help them streamline their processes as well as inform them about how their products are actually performing.
