- [Jason] Your portfolio is an opportunity to stand out from the crowd, but it requires an expert eye and dedicated focus to telling your design story. Hi, my name's Jason Fox, and I've been teaching in the graphic design department at the Savannah College of Art and Design for over 15 years and chaired the department for the last five years. In this course, you'll learn what it takes to create an expertly curated portfolio that reveals who you are as a designer. Design is an action taken to solve a problem, and portfolio should present your ability to provide predictable results through excellent work. Before you start, you'll need to answer a few questions. Why are you interested in developing your portfolio? What kind of designer are you? What value do you bring to your design team? Not just in your opinion, but ask yourself, why do people call on me? Why am I valued? Where do I want to go? And what job or position an I looking for? What does all of my public-facing content say about me? Can I use it? Should I use it? Choosing to build your portfolio is an incredible self-evaluation of your career and your work to this point. It can also be liberating and humbling when you sit back and take it all in. Chances are whether you're a seasoned professional or a student looking to step out into the world, you have a large breadth of work you'll need to curate and a complex story to tell.
