- [Voiceover] Hi, welcome to Getting Started with OpenOffice.org 2 Base. This is the free database application from intheopenoffice.org suite off applications. Now, in case you were not already aware of this, OpenOffice is the leading open source office software suite for database as well as word processing, presentations, graphs, spreadsheets and more. Furthermore, the suite is available in different languages and it will work on almost any computer, PC or Mac for example. It stores all your data and everything that you create in an international standard format.
It can also read and write files and other common office packages like those found in the Microsoft office suite of applications for example. Most of all, it can be downloaded and used completely free of charge. You heard me right, free. For any purpose at all. Tell as many people as you like, make copies, download it to more than one machine at home or even the office, it's all free. Now, in this title, we focus on the database application known as Base. We'll cover all the basics to get you up and running. If you're a premium subscriber, you have access to exercise files so you follow along with me.
Now, if you don't have the exercise files, no worries. You'll definitely learn lots just by watching or using your own days files. I'll be working in a windows this environment on a piece for this title but you can follow along from any environment. So, without any other delay, let's get started with OpenOffice.org 2.
