What you should know

Although this course is designed to get you up and running with Backbone and focuses on its easier concepts, this course is still not for beginners. So I'm assuming that you have some basic understanding of certain web development techniques. I'm assuming that you're comfortable with HTML, and if not, I'm going to suggest that you check out James Williamson's HTML 5, structure, syntax and semantics course. You should also be familiar with basic JavaScript concepts, like variables, functions, arrays, and the this keyword. If this is not the case, then I'm going to push you check out Simon Allardice's JavaScript Essential Training. Backbone makes extensive use of JavaScript functions. So, if these are unfamiliar to you, check out the JavaScript functions course by Ray Villalobos. Having a basic understanding of jQuery is key for Backbone as well. If you need some help here, I'm going to suggest that you check out Joe Marini's jQuery Essential Training. And lastly, you should be comfortable editing with text editors, like Brackets or Sublime Text or others. In this course, I am going to use an editor called Sublime Text, but you should use your favorite text editor. While Up and Running with Backbone is not for beginners, you don't have to be a specific expert. If you have some experience with the concepts listed above, you should have no problems taking this course.
